In tough competition with several other manufacturers, Kalmar Industries has won an order from Sdra, an economic association representing forest owners in Sweden, for the delivery of 32 lift trucks for wood and pulp handling. Delivery of the machines began in 2007 and will continue until the last units are supplied in 2009. The deal marks the start of a long-term partnership between Sdra and Kalmar.

High product quality and offers of good support backed by Kalmars far-reaching service network were the deciding factors, thanks to which we have now been selected as lead supplier for a period of several years, says Jan Ohlsson, Managing Director of Kalmar Sweden.

Eight forklifts with capacities from 15 tonnes will be used for pulp handling at Sdra Cells pulp mills in Mrrum, Mnsters and Vr, Sweden. Sdra Timbers ten production facilities in the countrys southern region will employ 24 units including forklifts for lumber handling with capacities ranging from 10 to 25 tonnes and logstacker machines purpose-built for wood handling with load ratings of up to 30 tonnes. As one of Europes leading manufacturers of sawn and planed timber products, Sdra Timber produced 1.7 million sq m of wood products in 2004.

With a membership of more than 50,000 forest owners representing 35,000 forest properties in southern Sweden, Sdra has operations in forestry services, wood products, pulp and energy. The association produces sawn and planed timber goods, interior products, paper pulp and biofuel. In recent years Sdra has also become such a large producer of electricity that the Group now produces more electricity than it uses.
